A referência ao banquete é clara, mas o seu sentido celebratório inverte-se: o que aqui se serve é outro tipo de alimento.
Ao contrário da Natureza Morta de Pieter Claesz, esta composição assume-se como moralizante. Procura questionar os rituais contemporâneos do consumo, do gosto e da acumulação.
Uma sátira, entre o grotesco e o ornamental, a peça evoca uma espécie de luxo terminal – aludindo às experiências das elites que, historicamente, corrompem e consomem o resto da humanidade.

The reference to the banquet is clear, but its celebratory meaning is reversed: what is served here is another kind of nourishment.
Unlike Pieter Claesz’s Still Life, this composition takes a moral stance. It seeks to question contemporary rituals of consumption, taste, and accumulation.
A satire between the grotesque and the ornamental, the piece evokes a kind of terminal luxury – alluding to the experiences of elites who have historically corrupted and consumed the rest of humanity.
